quit smoking before faceliftSo you’ve already met with a board-certified plastic surgeon and are planning your facelift procedure. Congratulations! This can be an exciting time, but it can also feel a little overwhelming. These three prep tips should give you a good idea of what to do before your facelift so you can rest assured you’re ready for the big day.

  1. Have a Positive Mindset

First, it’s important to maintain realistic expectations about your final results and the procedure itself. Know that you will need to take it easy after your facelift and that while this procedure can help you to look and feel more youthful and energized, it’s not going to turn back the hands of time completely.* That said, your facelift could shave roughly seven years off your look.*

Setting realistic goals for yourself can make all the difference when it comes to keeping a positive outlook throughout the entire process.

  2. Stop Smoking

Not only can smoking increase your risk of complications during your facelift, but it can also slow your body’s healing process afterwards and may interfere with your final results.*

Generally speaking, try to quit smoking at least four weeks before plastic surgery and for at least four weeks afterwards. Even better still, you may want to use your facelift procedure as motivation for kicking the habit for good.

Drinking alcohol can also slow your body’s healing process and can interfere with anesthesia.

  3. Ask Your Plastic Surgeon for Guidelines

Make sure you get a list of facelift preparation and recovery guidelines from your plastic surgeon before your procedure. This list might include things like not taking certain medications before and right after your facelift and washing your face the morning of your procedure.

If you have more questions along the way, don’t hesitate to get in touch with your plastic surgeon’s office.
