Laser Skin Treatment FAQs
The cost of laser treatment varies depending on factors such as the experience of the technician, your location, and the laser treatment you choose. The American Society of Plastic Surgeons estimates laser skin resurfacing costs to be $2,071 for ablative treatments and $1,144 for non-ablative treatments.
Which laser skin treatment is best will depend on your desired results. Some treatments are better for addressing signs of aging, such as fine lines and wrinkles, while others work better with other skin issues, such as hyperpigmentation and acne scars.
When choosing a facility for laser skin treatments, look for somewhere that is certified, clean and experienced. Ask to see before and after photos that address the same concerns as you are looking to address.
Technology in the area of laser skin treatments has greatly advanced and it is not the painful treatments of old. While you may experience some mild discomfort with some treatments, others are nearly pain-free. Most pain can be managed with topical creams, prescription medications or over-the-counter pain relievers.
Again, this is a question that depends on which laser skin treatment you choose. Some procedures have little to no downtime while with others you can expect 1 to 2 weeks of recovery. What to expect will be addressed during your initial consultation and post-treatment instructions.
Laser skin treatments are relatively safe, but as with any procedure there are possible risks. The most common risks associated with laser skin treatment include infection, changes in skin color, and scarring.
A few things to do include:
- Avoid medications that cause photosensitivity. Medications, such as doxycycline, can increase photosensitivity. Avoid these types of medications for at least 72 hours
Before your procedure.
- Avoid sun exposure. Avoid tanning and use a broad-spectrum sunscreen for at least 4 weeks prior to your procedure.
