Best Candidates for CoolSculpting
CoolSculpting is a non-surgical treatment designed to reduce stubborn pockets of fat that do not respond to diet and exercise. It works best for men and women who are near their ideal body weight but struggle with localized areas such as the abdomen, “love handles,” thighs, upper arms or under the chin.
The ideal candidate is in good overall health, maintains a stable weight and has realistic expectations about gradual fat reduction rather than dramatic weight loss. CoolSculpting is a body contouring treatment, not a weight-loss procedure, and is most effective for refining specific areas rather than addressing obesity.
Candidates should have good skin elasticity, as the treatment reduces fat but does not tighten significant loose skin.
CoolSculpting is not recommended for those with certain cold-related medical conditions, including cryoglobulinemia, cold agglutinin disease or paroxysmal cold hemoglobinuria. During your consultation, Dr. Kolder will review your medical history to ensure the treatment is safe and appropriate for you.
Benefits of CoolSculpting
CoolSculpting offers a non-surgical way to reduce stubborn fat and refine body contours without downtime. For men and women who are close to their goal weight but want additional contouring, it can be an effective and convenient option.
Some of the top reasons why our patients consider CoolSculpting include no incisions or anesthesia, little to no downtime, specific targeting of stubborn fat pockets, and gradual fat reduction with long-lasting results.
CoolSculpting vs. Liposuction
CoolSculpting and liposuction both reduce unwanted fat, but they differ significantly in approach and results. CoolSculpting is a nonsurgical treatment that gradually freezes and eliminates fat cells over time. It requires no anesthesia and little to no downtime, making it ideal for those who want subtle contouring with minimal interruption to daily life.
Liposuction is a surgical procedure that physically removes fat through small incisions. It provides more dramatic, immediate fat reduction and is better suited for men and women seeking significant contour changes or treating larger areas in one session.
If you are close to your goal weight and want modest improvement without surgery, CoolSculpting may be appropriate. If you desire more noticeable reshaping or have larger areas of concern, liposuction may be the better option.
Your Consultation
Your CoolSculpting consultation is designed to determine whether you are a good candidate and which areas will respond best to treatment. During this visit, Dr. Kolder will evaluate your areas of concern, assess skin elasticity and fat distribution and review your medical history to ensure the procedure is right for you.
You will discuss your goals, expected results and how many treatment sessions may be needed. A customized treatment plan will be created to target specific areas while maintaining natural-looking body proportions.
The CoolSculpting Procedure
CoolSculpting uses a cooling technique known as cryolipolysis to non-invasively freeze and remove fat cells. As the fat cells shrink and die, they are naturally metabolized by your body for 2 to 3 months after treatment. During that time, you should continue to see positive changes to your treated area.
CoolSculpting is a convenient outpatient procedure that requires no anesthesia or downtime. Unlike many fat reduction procedures, CoolSculpting does not cause interruptions in your daily routine.
During the procedure, you may initially experience some pulling and tugging at the treatment site. However, as the CoolSculpting device continues to cool the area, you should feel relatively numb soon after. Depending on the size of the area being treated, your CoolSculpting treatment can take anywhere from 30 minutes to 1 hour to complete.
After your treatment, the results will last for a long duration of time, as long as you keep up a healthy lifestyle. Depending on your specific goals, you may benefit from multiple treatments, which can be discussed during your initial consultation.
CoolSculpting Recovery & Results
While there are no inherent risks with CoolSculpting, you may experience some temporary side effects including mild redness, bruising, numbness, soreness/tenderness, tingling and itching. You should be able to continue your normal routine shortly after your CoolSculpting procedure is complete. Many patients choose to have their CoolSculpting treatments performed during their lunch break and then get back to work right after.
CoolSculpting can help you lose up to 25 percent of stubborn fat in the treated area. You should notice your body change over time as fat cells are gradually eliminated through the cryolipolysis process. While you may notice some slight changes to your appearance immediately after treatment, the full effects of your CoolSculpting treatment can take up to 90 days. This gives your body’s lymph system time to flush out the dead fat cells completely, revealing your final results.
Once the fat cells are eliminated, they will not come back. However, it is possible for new cells to grow and surrounding fat cells to increase in size. That is why it is important to maintain a healthy lifestyle so that you may continue to enjoy long-lasting results.
