When it comes to hyaluronic acid (HA) facial fillers, JUVÉDERM® is one of the most popular and well-recognized brands available. One of the many benefits of JUVÉDERM is its wide selection of formulations, each specifically designed to uniquely treat various areas of the face and address specific concerns.

At Pacifica Plastic Surgery, we offer several JUVÉDERM formulations to best meet the individual needs of our patients. In this guide, Dr. Kolder highlights some of the key differences between three of the most popular types of JUVÉDERM fillers and shares some tips to help you decide which could be best for you.

Voluma® XC is specially formulated to add volume and lift to the cheeks, creating a more youthful and contoured appearance. As we age, our cheeks may lose volume and sag, leading to a sunken or tired look. Voluma’s advanced hyaluronic acid formula replenishes lost volume, restores cheek contours and enhances facial balance.

Key benefits:

  • Adds natural-looking volume to the cheeks.
  • Subtly lifts and contours the mid-face area.
  • Offers long-lasting results.

Best for: Voluma is best for those looking to restore lost facial volume and softly contour the cheek and mid-face areas.

Vollure® XC is designed to smooth moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds, such as nasolabial folds, or “smile lines,” and marionette lines. Vollure’s formulation is lighter than Voluma’s but thicker than Volbella’s, offering a balanced option perfectly suited for smoothing moderate wrinkles. Plus, its innovative VYCROSS® technology allows for a smooth, natural-looking result with minimal swelling and downtime.

Key benefits:

  • Smooths facial wrinkles and folds.
  • Reduces signs of facial aging.
  • Long-lasting results, up to 18 months.

Best for: Vollure is best for those with moderate to severe facial wrinkles and creases who are seeking a smoother, more youthful-looking appearance.

Volbella® XC is specifically formulated for lip augmentation and the correction of perioral lines, also known as “lipstick lines” or “smoker’s lines.” Volbella has the thinnest formulation of the three types of fillers outlined in this guide, resulting in a smooth gel consistency that is ideal for creating soft, natural-looking results in the delicate lip area.

Key benefits:

  • Adds lip volume.
  • Enhances lip shape and symmetry.
  • Smooths fine lines around the mouth.

Best for: Volbella is best for anyone looking to enhance the size, shape or overall appearance of their lips.

How to Choose the Right Filler for You

Choosing the right JUVÉDERM filler depends on several factors, including your specific concerns, treatment goals and desired outcomes. During your consultation, Dr. Kolder will assess your facial anatomy, discuss your goals and recommend the most suitable filler for your needs. In some cases, more than one type of filler may be used, depending on your specific goals. Fillers like JUVÉDERM can also be combined with injectable neuromodulators like BOTOX®.
