woman consulting with doctor

Your breast augmentation consultation is an important first step in planning your upcoming procedure. During this time, Dr. Kolder will help you navigate your breast enhancement options, answer your questions and ensure that you are fully prepared for and confident about your breast augmentation

To help you prepare for your consultation with Dr. Kolder, read through this guide so you will know exactly what to expect and what types of questions to ask.

Review Your Goals and Medical History

Your consultation will begin with a discussion about your specific goals, such as desired volume, addressing asymmetry, adding a breast lift or any other concerns or requests you may have. Dr. Kolder plans on each consultation lasting anywhere from 1 to 2 hours, so there is ample time to listen closely to your needs and create a detailed breast augmentation plan that’s customized for you.

After discussing your goals, Dr. Kolder will then carefully review your medical history – including past surgeries, existing medical conditions and any medications you are taking – to ensure you are a good candidate for breast implants.

Physical Examination and Implant Options

After reviewing your goals and medical history, Dr. Kolder will then perform a physical examination of your breasts. This step will help to determine factors that may influence his recommendations for your breast augmentation options, such as your natural breast size, shape and position, nipple position and skin elasticity.

Vectra 3D imaging is also available, which can help to give you a more realistic idea of what various breast implant sizes and placements will look like on your body. Dr. Kolder will explain in more detail your breast implant options, including submuscular vs. subglandular placement, silicone vs. saline and sizing.

Your Questions Answered

Throughout your breast augmentation consultation, Dr. Kolder encourages his patients to ask any questions that may come up or that they’ve jotted down beforehand. Some questions to consider asking during your consultation include:

  • Which breast implant size, type and placement would you recommend for me?
  • Can I see before and after photos of your previous breast augmentation patients with similar body types and goals as mine?
  • Can you walk me through the breast augmentation procedure step-by-step? How can I prepare?
  • What type of scarring can I expect after getting breast implants?
  • What is the recovery process like?

Scheduling and Next Steps

You are never pressured to make a decision during the consultation – Dr. Kolder values informed consent and wants you to feel confident and prepared before making a decision.

If you do decide to move forward with breast augmentation, Dr. Kolder’s patient coordinator will guide you through the next steps, providing detailed information about pricing and scheduling. Because breast augmentation procedures typically only take about an hour to complete, Dr. Kolder is usually able to schedule them within the next several weeks.
