woman on white backgroundBreast augmentation has become a popular procedure for women who want to improve their overall breast appearance, including enhancing their cleavage. Cleavage refers to the visible space between the breasts, which is usually more pronounced with larger, fuller breasts. Many women wonder if breast augmentation will create the cleavage they want to see and what factors play a role in achieving their desired results.

Breast Implant Profile

One of the primary factors in the amount of cleavage you will have after breast augmentation is what is known as the “profile” of the breast implants you choose. A higher profile implant, one that projects further from the chest wall, will provide more fullness in the upper part of the breast, which can lead to a more defined cleavage. Low-profile implants have a wider base, resulting in a more subtle, natural-looking enhancement. If you’re looking for more dramatic cleavage with breast implants, a higher profile implant is likely the way to go.

Implant Placement

Breast implant placement also plays a significant role in the outcome of breast augmentation cleavage. There are two primary placement options: subglandular (over the chest muscle) and submuscular (under the chest muscle).

Subglandular placement can create more pronounced cleavage, since the implants are placed directly behind the breast tissue and are more noticeable. However, this placement may not be suitable for women with very little natural breast tissue, as it can result in a “stuck on” or obviously fake breast appearance that few women want.

Submuscular placement, on the other hand, provides a more natural appearance and feel, with the implants positioned beneath the pectoral muscle. This option can still create dramatic cleavage – just make sure Dr. Kolder knows you are focused on cleavage and he can make the placement decision accordingly.

Current Body Structure

The proportions of your body also play a role in the cleavage that can be created by breast augmentation. Factors like the width of your chest, the distance between your breasts, and your amount of existing breast tissue will all impact the final result.

If your breasts are naturally set further apart, achieving dramatic cleavage through breast augmentation may be a bit more challenging. However, a board-certified plastic surgeon like Dr. Kolder who has years of experience performing breast augmentation can use various techniques and guide your implant choice to enhance the appearance of your cleavage, regardless of your existing anatomy.
