Continue reading to learn more about the chin augmentation procedure, how it works, and what to expect after the procedure.

What Is Chin Augmentation?

Do you also think that your chin needs some modification? Well, chin augmentation is a surgical procedure to improve the chin, jawline, and neck outlines and shapes, enhancing a person’s overall look and appearance.

There are two types of chin augmentation, one being Chin Implants, and the other is Genioplasty. Chin implants are the most common of the two procedures.

About The Procedure

If you are considering chin augmentation for yourself, you should first examine how it is performed. The procedure involves the insertion of synthetic implants on the top of the existing chin bone, altering the patient’s face.

The procedure is performed under the supervision of a board-certified plastic surgeon. The complete surgery usually takes 1 hour to 1.5 hours and does not require local anesthesia.

The best part is that a chin augmentation can give you a permanent solution to your imperfect chin.

Points To Consider Before And After The Surgery

During your visit,  the surgeon will examine your health condition to ensure you are fit for the surgery and suggest some cautions that you must follow for the best results and faster recovery. Some of the standard precautions that you should take care of are:

Before Surgery

  • Avoid smoking for at least 3-4 weeks before the surgery.
  • Do not take alcohol two days before surgery.
  • Avoid eating or drinking for a minimum of 6 hours before surgery.
  • If you are on any type of medication, inform your surgeon in advance.

After Surgery

  • There will be swelling, redness, and bruising for a week that may cause you discomfort.
  • There will be a chin strap dressing for 3-4 days.
  • You will be on a liquid diet for at least a week.
  • You will have to limit your jaw and mouth movement for a week.
  • You can resume your regular work after 7-10 days.

For a complete and quick recovery, you should follow the instructions without fail. You may feel pain with swelling, redness, and bruising; hence you should avoid eating solid food for at least one week, and you also have to limit your chin movements. The recovery may take 7 to 10 days after the surgery, post which you can resume your regular work.

Ideal Candidate

Chin augmentation is not recommended if you have medical conditions like severe small or deformed chin, labial incompetence, lip protrusion, shortened mandibular height, severe malocclusion, and periodontal disease.

And the ideal candidate has fully developed facial features and does not like his/her chin appearance.
