Breast augmentation and breast lifts, or mastopexy, remain the two most popular breast enhancement procedures year after year. While breast implants still have an edge over breast lifts as far as the number performed each year, breast lifts are quickly gaining traction.

Take a look at some of the reasons why breast lifts are becoming more and more popular, and how to decide if a breast lift or augmentation could be the best choice for you.

Achieve a Natural Look without Dramatic Volume

One of the biggest reasons why breast lifts without implants are becoming more popular is due to changes in aesthetic trends. The “ballet body” trend, for example, which emphasizes more modest curves and a natural-looking silhouette, has become a rising beauty trend in recent years. Thus, instead of aiming for a dramatic size increase, many women want perkier, well-shaped breasts that complement their overall figure. A breast lift can achieve this by repositioning sagging tissue, tightening skin and restoring a firmer, more youthful look and feel without necessarily changing cup size.

Trends in Weight Loss Medications

As the popularity of GLP-1 weight loss medications like Ozempic® and Wegovy® has skyrocketed over the past several years, so has the number of requests for lifting procedures like breast lifts. Sometimes referred to as “Ozempic makeovers,” these body contouring procedures aimed at removing and tightening loose skin in areas like the breasts, tummy and thighs have become hugely popular as a result of so many people reaching their weight loss goals.

More Women in Older Age Groups Are Opting for Plastic Surgery

Another driving factor is the rise of plastic surgery among women in their 50s, 60s and beyond. According to recent data from the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, there was a 21% increase in the number of women ages 55 to 69 who got breast lifts in 2024 compared to the previous year, as well as a 43% increase in women ages 40 to 54 who opted for breast lifts. There was even a 3% increase in breast lifts for women ages 70 and above.

A Youthful Look with Less Maintenance

While neither breast lift nor implants will last forever, breast implants do require some extra maintenance compared to lifts, including regular screenings for ruptures and will typically need to be replaced eventually. For some women, choosing a breast lift without implants is a lower-maintenance option that can still help them achieve the more youthful appearance and balanced figure they’re looking for.

Still Not Sure Which Could Be Right for You?

Keep in mind that many women still choose to get a combination breast lift and augmentation to get the best of both worlds – so if you’re still stuck between the two, you might consider this combo procedure. In either case, Dr. Kolder can help you decide what’s best for your unique needs and goals during your consultation.
