The one question that nearly all women who are planning a breast augmentation are most excited to ask is, “What size implants should I get?” Choosing the right breast implant size is a very important part of your planning process, so this is understandable. While many women have a bra cup size in mind that they would like to fill out with breast implants, it is important to note that breast implants are not measured in cup sizes, but rather cubic centimeters (cc) of volume.

In this guide, Dr. Kolder breaks down how different cup sizes may translate to breast implant sizes in cc.

Why Aren’t Implants Measured in Cup Size?

The simple answer is that bra cup sizes are not standard and can vary by brand, style and type of bra. CCs are a much more accurate and standardized measurement, allowing plastic surgeons like Dr. Kolder to take the guesswork out of implant sizing.

That said, if you typically wear a B cup in a particular bra and would like to increase to a C cup via breast augmentation, it can still be helpful to share this information with Dr. Kolder so he has a general idea of the amount of added volume you’re looking for.

Most Common Breast Implant Sizes

Breast implants can range in size from around 100 cc to 800 cc. As might be expected, the most common implant size is somewhere in the middle, ranging from 250 cc to 400 cc.

As explained above, there isn’t an exact translation between breast implant volume and bra cup size. However, this general guide can give you a good idea of the size range:

  • 200 cc to 250 cc typically adds about 1 cup size.
  • 300 cc to 350 cc can increase breast volume by 1.5 to 2 cup sizes.
  • 400 cc to 500 cc can increase breast volume by 2 to 3 cup sizes, depending on your starting cup size.

Breast Implant Profiles Explained

Breast implant volume isn’t the only factor that goes into your final size and overall new look. Implant profile – how far outward your implants project from your chest – is also important. Breast implants come in a range of profiles, and Dr. Kolder will discuss your specific options in more detail with you during your breast augmentation consultation

Generally speaking, low-profile implants project the least from the chest and have a wider base, while high-profile implants project the most and have a narrower base. Medium-profile implants are in between.

Choosing the Right Breast Implant Size for You

Choosing the right implant size is a highly personal decision. It’s not just about how big you want to go, but also about what will look proportionate, natural and align with your lifestyle. Dr. Kolder takes several factors into account during your consultation, including your body shape, existing breast tissue, skin elasticity and cosmetic goals. He uses advanced imaging technology to help you visualize how different implant sizes could look on your body.
