Warmer weather means sandals, sundresses, sand and sun! However it can also mean rough, dry, and burned skin if you don’t take the necessary steps to keep you skin healthy and protected. Here are 5 tips to help your skin stay beautiful all season long!
Moisturize your Skin
Heat and sun can leave skin feeling parched. Up hydration with intensive masques one to two times a week to maximize the effect of your daily moisturizer. Skin still feeling a little dry? Refresh with a spritz of moisturizing spray at your desk, in the car, at the gym, or at the beach!
Make friends with H2O
Moisturizing isn’t only for the outside of your skin. High heat and time in the sun can lead to dehydration, be sure to drink a minimum of eight glasses of water (more if you consume caffeine) to keep your skin looking supple and hydrated all summer long.
Apply SPF (and reapply!)
We all know a daily broad spectrum SPF is a must in any season. However, in the summer months it is especially important to not only apply SPF but to also reapply several times a day (every 90 minutes is recommended). If you have oily or acne-prone skin, go for products containing zinc oxide, which won’t clog pores.
Do damage control on over-exposed skin
Even the most diligent SPF users can occasionally get burned in the harsh rays of the sun. Once the damage is done, it is all about calming a soothing overexposed skin. Cooling creams and gels containing aloe vera will help soothe burned skin along with cool compresses on particularly sensitive areas.
Repair and treat sun damage
Years of tanning (and sunburns) can take their toll on your skin eventually leading to sun spots, wrinkles and even skin cancers. Regular skin cancer checks by your dermatologist can help keep you clear of cancer and regular laser treatments such as Broadband Light (BBL) can help reverse the damage done to skin erasing years of bad sun care habits.
