Smiling businesswoman working at her desk. You have made the decision to conquer the signs of aging on your face and neck with a facelift procedure. You are getting excited and preparing for your new younger look, but the unknown of any medical procedure can make people a bit uneasy.

Knowing what to expect after your procedure and during recovery can help put your mind at ease. This little guide gives you an idea of what to expect with recovery and when to expect to see those amazing facelift results.

Your First Few Days after a Facelift

In the first week after your facelift, it is essential to follow your postoperative instructions. This helps to ensure you heal properly. The first day, you can expect to feel tired and a bit unsteady. This is often the day when pain medication is needed most. Having someone at home to assist you is a good idea.

Day two is likely to bring a follow-up appointment for the physician to change surgical dressings and check the incisions. Bruising and swelling are often the worst around day 3 and 4 but will start to minimize every day. Pain medications continue to help minimize discomfort for the first week, but most people find they no longer need them after that. Rest is essential during this first week.

The Second Week of Facelift Recovery

During the second week, you will still see some swelling and bruising and may experience some numbness and tingling. However, by the end of the week, you will start to feel like yourself and be ready to return to work and light activities.

Weeks 3 and 4

At this point, your facelift sutures are ready for removal. You may still have some tightness and swelling but are typically looking and feeling much better. Now is the time you may notice a difference in your facial contours. At this point, you are ready to resume all normal activities and exercise programs.

Hitting the 30-Day Mark

After 30 days, most people are back to normal activity and enjoying their fresh new look. You may experience minor swelling for a few months, but it is not something other people will notice.
