The weather outside may be frightful but your skin doesn’t have to be.
Wintertime brings boots, scarves, sweaters, and cozy evenings by the fire but it can also mean dry and flaking skin. Don’t let your skin dry out and look dull by forgetting to implement a winter skin care regimen. Licensed Aesthetician Stephanie Ingersoll has outlined her favorite tips to keep your skin hydrated and healthy through the winter months.
Moisturize, moisturize, moisturize
Harsh winter weather can sap your skin’s moisture leaving dry and irritated skin. Consider adding a hydrating serum (hyaluronic) underneath your moisturizer to help lock in necessary moisture to keep your skin soft and smooth.
Slough it off
Dry and flaking skin can leave your complexion looking a little lackluster and prevent much needed moisture from penetrating in. Exfoliation is key! It helps clear away dead skin cells and assists your skin care products in doing their job. Let your radiant self (and skin) shine through and get exfoliating!
Always have a drink in your hand
A drink of water that is. When the temperatures drop, it is easy to forget to keep up the habit of drinking enough water. However, proper hydration is key to keeping your skin looking its best – after all, beauty starts from within!
Keep it cool-er
While it may seem counter intuitive, it is best to skip super-hot baths and showers in the winter. The intense heat of a hot soak can break down the lipid barriers in the skin, which can lead to drying of the skin.
Ask an expert
Now is the time to treat yourself with a Hydrating facial. Winter weather with its blowing winds and lack of humidity in the air can aggravate sensitive skin leaving it dry, dull and irritated. A Hydrating facial can counter these effects by restoring hydration, improving circulation, feeding your skin and leaving you fresh faced and party ready.
